An Entrepreneurial Mindset

Posted on

Dear Horned Frogs,

In a time of rapid change for higher education, I’ve seen how Texas Christian University stands out as a model of entrepreneurial leadership and how our commitment to innovation shapes the next generation of ethical leaders. Our university’s innovative mindset drives success across campus and sets new benchmarks for what’s possible in higher education. Here are just a few recent examples:

  1. CBS News spotlighted the Anne Burnett Marion School of Medicine in its series on Tarrant County’s infant mortality rates, highlighting its innovative research, student-driven initiatives and faculty expertise in tackling critical healthcare challenges.
  2. Our Entrepreneurship Program received the National Model Program Award for Large Institutions from the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE).
  3. Our medical students developed a QR code system to enhance Narcan distribution and data tracking, streamlining overdose response and reinforcing the school’s commitment to innovation.
  4. TCU Geology is pioneering research in the Triassic period, uncovering evidence of rapid, climate-driven transformations in Palo Duro Canyon, shedding new light on ancient mega-monsoons and their impact on Earth’s geological history – giving new insights on the future of evolution.
  5. An undergraduate scholar in the John V. Roach Honors College is exploring effective interventions for bilingual students with learning disabilities to improve clinical practices and ultimately the lives of children.
  6. Two entrepreneurship majors successfully launched a Jimmy John’s franchise, utilizing insights from the Neeley School of Business entrepreneurial program to navigate the complexities of franchise ownership and create a thriving business in Fort Worth.

Recently, I had the opportunity to share insight into how leaders can cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset in The Chronicle of Higher Education. As we continue to implement the LEAD ON: Values in Action strategic plan and determine strategies to execute initiatives, I see our students, faculty and staff naturally leaning into our entrepreneurial spirit. Through creativity, collaboration and agility, we’re ensuring TCU remains at the forefront of higher education.

I’d love to hear from other Horned Frogs about how they are leading with an entrepreneurial spirit. You can always reach me by email or through the Share Your Idea form.

Lead On, Frogs!
