Dear Horned Frogs,
Welcome to the fall 2024 semester at Texas Christian University! This year, we welcome nearly 2,500 incoming first-year students to our campus community, and I couldn’t be more excited about the TCU Class of 2028. I’ve already had the opportunity to meet several students, and it’s clear this class will make an impact on our campus and the global community.
With more than 22,000 completed applications for first-year admission, TCU is more competitive than ever. Early (non-official*) reporting numbers show this class is among the most academically qualified in history, with a nearly 3.8 average high school GPA. We learned from admission essays and campus visits that the TCU Class of 2028 is full of creative, hard-working students and leaders. Their stories and backgrounds are as varied as their aspirations, reflecting their rich diversity. Their resumes are impressive – covering everything from mission trips and volunteer work to participating in a wide variety of clubs and activities and advocating for positive change in their communities. Many held jobs in high school, and some even graduated from high school early, eager to pursue higher education.
The TCU Class of 2028 is considered part of Gen Z, known for being “digital natives,” meaning they haven’t known a world without smartphones, the internet and social media. Many were born in 2006 – the year Twitter was launched – and the iPhone first came out the year after. They entered high school during the COVID-19 pandemic and had to learn to adapt to online learning and hybrid classrooms. Their ability to navigate technology and their access to global perspectives give them a leg up on developing empathy and preparing to be ethical leaders.
